DESIGN CATEGORY:

Promotional design and advertising, 1999

DESIGN FIRM:

Chermayeff & Geismar Inc. (New York, New York)

COLLECTION:

(2000) AIGA 365: 21

CREDITS:

Art director/designer:  Steff Geissbuhler

Printer: Noblet Serigraphie

Software: Illustrator 8.0

Client:  AIGA

DESCRIPTION:

The task was to design a oneoff poster for AIGA’s headquarter office to be placed in its competitions and exhibitions department. The concept was to express the variety and multitude of work entered and exhibited by using all the different names to describe the various design disciplines and categories. The intricate, overlapping letterforms and colored shapes was an idea that could not easily be sketched by hand—or even communicated to others—and is therefore a true computer design solution, directly created for the final Iris print process.

MY COMMENT:

Although the tools used to design this poster are simple, the amount of type and information design shows a thoughtful study of space that resulted in a vibrant colorful eye-catchy poster. I think that they succeeded in their direction.
