Project A: Book/Magazine Re-Design: Production Plan (Alia S.)

Title: the namesake

Audience: mainly adults

book story:

The Namesake takes the Ganguli family from their tradition-bound life in Calcutta through their fraufgt transformation into Americans. On the heels of their arranged marriage, Ashoke and Ashima Ganguli settletogether in Cambridge, Massachusetts. An engineer by training, Ashoke adapts far less warily than his wife, who resists all things Ammerican and pines for her family. When their son is born, the task of naming him betrays the vexed results of bringing old ways to the new world. Named for Russian writer by his Indian parents in memory of a catastrophe years before, Gogol Ganguli knows only that he suffers the burden of his heritage as well as his odd, antic name.

Art Direction:

Since this novel is a movie as well, I’d like to have a good photo from the movie that captures the main idea of emigration, and the cultural conflicts.

Keywords: Emigration, conflicts, searching for the identity…

Photoshop techniques you’re going to use:

Mask, add noise, changing overall colors, some filters, enlarging the image,,,etc

  1. Don’t you think “name, naming” should be portrayed on the cover then? You need to capture the core/main story of the book. What would that be? yun*

  2. the main idea is about emigration..and the cross culture conflicts
