Project: Research Best Book/Magazine Cover [sara z]

Book 1 – Karim Rashid
1. What is the story?
Karim Rashid is a designer and he wrote a book about designing “life”. He talks about different aspects of life and how you can control the quality of life by rearranging, managing, organizing etc etc etc so we see an outline of his face in the cover and patterns from his designs.
2. What are the strength?
The contrast in color. Contrast is eye-catching most of the time. Nice sans serif too

3. What are the weakness? What can be improved?
I can’t find a weakness and Karim Rashid probably designed it so I can’t say anything…….!

Book 2 – Heaven’s Price
1. What is the story?
It’s a regular love story. The flowers in the background of the book cover symbolize emotions, feelings. The colors chosen are pastel colors..

2. What are the strength?
You immediately know what kind of novel is this, which is good for people with low attention span.

3. What are the weaknesses? What can be improved?
It will only catch the attention of old women! The design is slightly busy I think and “old”.

Book 3 – Structural Packaging
1. What is the story?
A book about the methods of folding and creating packages. It contains a lot of packaging techniques etc etc. The story of the design is : showing paper outlines and folds to emphasize the purpose of the book .
2. What are the strength?
The color of the book is interesting. It’s similar to carton which is what most packages and boxes are made of. The idea of carton is strong.

3. What are the weaknesses? What can be improved?
The text is floating (like the word workbook for example)

  1. Great start, Saraz! I personally think that Karim Rashid has a noteworthy point in his perspectives. I liked his shoes when he came to Dubai for International Design Forum : ) He manages over 300 projects at once I heard.

  2. interesting choice for book# 1 Sara.z & Good-Luck on the rest 😉

    So Ms. Yunsun,
the story you are asking for is the content of the book/ author/ subject Or the story of the visuals (images/ illustrations/ typography) that are on the cover and how do they translate the content of the book?!

  3. “the story you are asking for is the content of the book/ author/ subject Or the story of the visuals (images/ illustrations/ typography) that are on the cover and how do they translate the content of the book?!”

I’m not Ms Yunsun but I think both

thanks Ms Yunsun :)))))))) did he wear bright yellow shoes?

  4. No, not both. Only the visual story of a cover design. The way to conceptualize the story to visual messages.

No, bright pink with matching pants. : )

  5. i must say i loved karim design too . And about the heaven price story the font and flowers is too much for a book few petals maybe with a simpler font it will surely look better. However the third book structural design ti cant agree more about the cartoon idea is very smart but am curiously thinking what if lines and circles were removed with a bigger font how it will look like?

    all the best friend!

  6. Hamda, yes font needs to be slightly bigger, maybe pushed together? That’s why it’s floating somehow. thanks :))

    Thanks for clarifying Ms Yunsun
